Product Description

Manta MF3 is an alkoxy silane-terminated polyether polymer (viscosity 1000-2000 mPa·s at 25°C, density 1.02-1.05 g/cm³) used as a base polymer for moisture-curing elastic sealants, encapsulating adhesives and sealing coatings in construction, transportation and general industry. Its low viscosity and low activity allow higher filler loading in solvent-free, isocyanate-free formulations.

Processing  

Manta MF3 polymer is readily soluble in common organic solvents such as ethanol, while remaining virtually insoluble in water. As a result, formulation components are typically oil-soluble materials.

The curing mechanism is based on moisture-initiated silane reactions: in the presence of a catalyst, terminal silane groups undergo hydrolysis to form silanols, which subsequently condense to create siloxane crosslinks, producing a three-dimensional network structure.

Although MF3 polymer contains highly reactive functional groups, it remains stable for a certain period under catalyst-free conditions. Moisture control is critical during storage and processing. To ensure formulation stability, the addition of a chemical moisture scavenger is required; vinyl trimethoxysilane is recommended.

Why is Manta MF3 suited to formulations with high powder loading?

MF3 has a low viscosity of 1000-2000 mPa·s at 25°C and low activity with low shrink, so formulators can add more filler powder while keeping the compound processable. This makes it a base for low-viscosity encapsulating adhesives and high-hardness sewing sealants.

What moisture scavenger should be added to MF3-based sealants?

A chemical moisture scavenger is required to keep MF3 formulations stable, and vinyl trimethoxysilane is the recommended choice. Moisture control during storage and processing is critical because the terminal silane groups hydrolyze and crosslink on contact with water.

Can Manta MF3 be combined with other Manta polymers?
