Product Description

Manta MSEP is an aqueous potassium methyl siliconate solution (CAS 31795-24-1, solid content typically 30%, 40% or 52%) used as a water-dilutable penetrating water repellent for natural stone, terracotta, facing brick and exposed concrete. Its potassium-based chemistry mitigates the white salt deposits (efflorescence) associated with conventional sodium siliconates.

Manta MSEP is a water-reducible potassium methyl siliconate solution, engineered as a premium-grade water repellent for highly porous mineral substrates. Positioned as the superior alternative to conventional sodium siliconates, its unique potassium-based chemistry significantly mitigates the risk of unsightly white salt deposits (efflorescence), making it the ultimate choice for high-aesthetic architectural surfaces.

Following application and deep penetration into the substrate’s capillary tract, the active siliconate reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). This rapid curing process constructs an invisible, highly cross-linked polymethylsiloxane network both internally and across the treated surface.

This permanent, insoluble silicone matrix delivers exceptional capillary moisture defense, drastically cutting water absorption while flawlessly maintaining the material’s natural vapor permeability (breathability). Treated structures exhibit outstanding weatherability, anti-aging performance, and resistance to dirt pick-up.

Equivalent grade: Wacker SILRES BS 16, Silblock* WSK masonry water repellent, Dow XIAMETER™ OFS-6778 / XIAMETER™ OFS-0777 Siliconate.

Properties

  • Efflorescence-Free: Potassium-based formulation ensures a clean, natural finish without white salt staining.
  • Exceptional Durability: Highly resistant to UV degradation, extreme temperatures (-50°C to 150°C), and weathering.
  • Cost-Effective Dilution: Highly concentrated active ingredient; can be easily diluted with tap water directly on-site.

Applications

  1. Premium Architectural & Natural Stone Protection

The ultimate non-efflorescing water repellent for high-value aesthetic surfaces. Highly recommended for the treatment of natural marble, granite, terracotta, premium exposed concrete, and porous facing bricks where preserving the flawless original appearance is critical.

  1. High-End Coatings & Paint Additives

Serves as a performance-boosting additive in premium water-borne architectural coatings and alkali silicate paints. Significantly enhances hydrophobicity, weather resistance, and color retention without compromising bonding strength.

  1. Advanced Oilfield & Drilling Operations

Functions as an elite shale inhibitor and fluid modifier in oil drilling, efficiently adjusting mud viscosity. In Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), it is injected to stabilize formation integrity and prevent crustal matrix collapse.

  1. Specialty Wood & Cellulosic Treatments

When a dilute Manta MSEP solution is precisely neutralized with aluminum sulfate or aluminum nitrate, it becomes an exceptional impregnating agent, imparting outstanding water repellency and acting as a potent preservative for wood and fiberboards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose potassium-based Manta MSEP over a sodium siliconate?

The potassium-based formulation significantly mitigates white salt staining (efflorescence), so MSEP suits high-aesthetic surfaces such as marble, granite, terracotta, exposed concrete and porous facing bricks. Sodium-based Manta MSES remains the more economical option for mass integral treatment.

What concentrations is Manta MSEP supplied at?

Solid content is customizable, typically 30%, 40% or 52% (plus or minus 2%), with specific gravity 1.30 at 25 degrees C and pH 13. The concentrate can be diluted with tap water directly on-site.

How does Manta MSEP develop its water repellency?

After penetrating the capillary tract, the active siliconate reacts with atmospheric CO2 to build an invisible, highly cross-linked polymethylsiloxane network inside and across the surface. The cured matrix is insoluble, vapor-permeable and resistant from -50 to 150 degrees C.

Can Manta MSEP be used to protect wood?

Yes. When a dilute MSEP solution is precisely neutralized with aluminum sulfate or aluminum nitrate, it becomes an impregnating agent that imparts water repellency and acts as a preservative for wood and fiberboards.
